2024 BMW Championship
The FedEx Cup playoff field has been cut to 50 golfers for the BMW Championship following Hideki Matsuyama’s multi-stroke win last weekend at the FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind. Matsuyama jumped out to a massive lead in the third round, and it was just too much for Viktor Hovland, Xander Schauffele, and Scottie Scheffler, who finished T2 and third, to overcome.
The BMW Championship will be played at Castle Pines Golf Club in Castle Pines, Colorado, this week. It’s relatively uncommon to see a PGA Tour event being played at elevation. Still, Castle Pines will be the longest course ever played on the PGA Tour and will play long even with the advantage of the elevation.

While this event has been played at various locations over the past five years, there seems to be a constant theme to the BMW Championship courses. Typically, these courses have been long, challenging ball-striking courses that require distance and accuracy, and that is going to be similar at Castle Pines this weekend.

Castle Pines Golf Club Preview – 2024 BMW Championship
Castle Pines Golf Club was last played on the PGA Tour in 2006. Since then, the course has been renovated twice. In 2017, all 18 greens were reseeded; now, they consist of creeping bentgrass. In 2020, holes No.9 and 14-17 were updated.
Initially, with the course being at elevation and seeing the 8,130 yards on the scorecard, you would assume this will be a bomber’s paradise. But with ten holes with water in play, four to five-inch long penal rough and 77 bunkers littered around this course, accuracy and ball striking will be as important as distance off the tee.
The greens are on the smaller side of average and are well protected by bunkers and ponds. They are a relatively flat and lightning-fast reading 13 on the stimpmeter. But being a bentgrass/poa mix and having no grain to deal with, good putters can make a ton of putts on these greens.
